“the law,the law, what are all these laws for…”

Peace and Blessings be with you.

The title of this post comes from a song in a play written in South Africa in the middle of the 80’s by Talieb Pietersen (who is no longer with us) and David Kramer called ‘District 6’

District 6 , from which the new South African / Hollywood Blockbuster  movie ‘District 9’ is rumored to take some inspiration from , is an area just on the outskirts of the city of Cape Town. It is an area from which 60000 people were forcefully removed during the ‘rezoning’ of the area to a ‘white area’ under the Apartheid system. The play was a spectacular success internationally and eventually made its rounds in South Africa itself.

Why do I mention this play, the song, these words? Because this is what i am think about after having read 2 pieces in the Mail & Guardian, one about a beggar being beating in the hallowed halls of consumerism ( Arab owned V&A waterfront ) without anyone doing any thing, and another pertinent piece called ” our house is on fire” by MAMPHELA RAMPHELE, where she assesses the “me myself and i first philosophy ” that is ravaging our country from within.

I have one image for today…

have we become a people who put faith in lip service and posturing...

have we become a people who put faith in lip service and posturing...

Salaam
